Power outages and UPS strategies

What happens during a power outage

When the power is out, RF-HUB loses the Wi-Fi connection and cannot receive commands. On restart:

  • Settings remain — nothing needs to be reconfigured.
  • RF-HUB connects to Wi-Fi within 10–30 seconds.
  • Schedules start running again as soon as the time has synced (a few extra seconds).

Do I need a UPS?

For frequent short power outages or if RF-HUB controls safety-critical devices (outdoor lighting, alarms) — yes. A small USB UPS is sufficient:

  • Power bank with UPS function — the cheapest solution, provides 4–8 hours of operation.
  • Mini-UPS for router — powers both the router and RF-HUB, so you can also reach the hub from outside during a power outage.
  • APC Back-UPS or similar — for longer outages and if other devices also need protection.

What should the UPS power?

For remote monitoring, you also need the Wi-Fi router and fibre converter/modem on the UPS — otherwise you cannot access RF-HUB even if it is up and running.
